We’re Take and Joey — longtime friends, business partners, and two guys who got a little obsessed with Japan’s abandoned homes.
We first met at university in Tokyo, and though life took us in different directions (Joey to NYC, Take to the Bay Area), we stayed close while working in tech. Fast-forward to January 2023, and we launched AkiyaMart — our platform to help people discover and buy abandoned homes in Japan.
Since our first purchase in Beppu, we’ve bought 5 akiyas and helped over 50 others successfully navigate the process.
👋 About Us
🏡 Why We Built AkiyaStay
AkiyaStay is our way of showcasing what’s possible when these homes get a second chance.
All the properties here belong to real people — our customers — who’ve brought them back to life. This platform gives them a place to share, host, and inspire others to do the same.
